Fatal Injuries Rise in Construction Industry

Recent statistics from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have revealed that the number of construction workers fatally injured at work has risen in the last year.

Huge heights, heavy machinery, and dangerous equipment all combine to make construction one of the UK’s most dangerous industries, and the HSE data shows that accidents are still having a serious impact on people who work in the sector.

The figures revealed that between April 2013 and March 2014, construction sustained the highest rate of worker fatalities of any industry with 42 workers fatally injured at work, an increase on the previous year (39). While the figures showed an annual increase, fatalities still remain below the five-year average of 46 deaths, showing that on the whole workplaces are steadily getting safer. Read More »

Are You Owed Compensation?

According to new research, one in four adults have suffered a personal injury over the last five years but not even quarter of them made a claim.

The following questions could help you determine whether you are owed compensation, and how much you are likely to receive.

1 – Have you been injured in the last three years?

To ensure you are able to claim, you need to make sure you do so within three years (if the claim is for an adult that is capable of handling their own affairs). You will be able to claim if court
proceedings are issued within three years of you first being aware that you suffered the injury.

In some cases, a court may decide to extend a time limit, depending on the circumstances of the case. Read More »

FA Introduces New Rules for Head Injuries

After numerous calls for change regarding the rules for head injuries in football, The FA and The Premier League have now announced new guidelines for the management of concussion and head injuries from the start of the 2014/15 season.

The new rules have been devised to prevent players from returning to the field after a ‘confirmed or suspected loss of consciousness’.  Where a head injury occurs but no concussion is apparent, an on field or touchline assessment must be carried out before the player is allowed to return.

Other changes under the new guidelines include:

Do You Have a Personal Injury Case?

Last week we brought you the news that in 2014, only 25% of people who suffered an injury through an accident that wasn’t their fault made a claim for compensation, with a large majority stating they didn’t believe their injury was bad enough, or their claim wasn’t strong enough.

We understand that after an accident many people don’t consider a personal injury lawsuit because they aren’t sure whether or not they would have a case.  For this reason we have put together a guide to help you establish whether you could make a claim for compensation after an injury.

In simple terms, if you have been seriously injured as a result of the negligence of another person you should be able to make a personal injury claim. Read More »

New Research: Injury Claims Are Not Being Made

New research has suggested that people who suffer a personal injury are not pursuing a claim for compensation.

The ‘Personal Injury 2014’ report, carried out by YouGov, found that in April 2014 only 25% of people who suffered an injury through an accident that wasn’t their fault made a claim for compensation. The statistics show a drop from June 2013, where almost three in ten people (29%) claimed.

The YouGov poll uncovered that there were a variety of reasons why injured parties weren’t claiming for compensation after an accident. The biggest reason, given by over a third (35%) of respondents
who had an accident or illness was that they did not think their ailment was bad enough to warrant a claim, while 22% cited that they didn’t believe in claiming compensation. Read More »
